What's the Valantimes Day? February 14

February 14 is called Valentine's Day.

But do you know why this day is called Valentine's Day or the Day of Lovers?

Valentine is the name of a Christian priest.

In the 3rd century AD, the king who ruled Rome wanted to expand his empire. So he ordered all his citizens to join the army. The king thought that having more single people than married people would make the army stronger, so he banned all citizens from getting married. Father Valentine was also there at this time. He saw young people who were helpless because of this law. Do you know what Father Valentine did? He secretly married young couples who were in love. He did not have to do this work for long. Father Valentine was imprisoned. Later, he was beheaded on February 14th for not obeying the king's orders.

Later, the Christian Church has named Valentine the saint of lovers. Also, the day of Valentine's death has been named Valentine's Day because of the service he rendered to lovers.

So that's the story. There are more incidents in this story. That's the gist. In Sri Lanka, this has only come after 1990.
